Creating the Sock Snowman

Reagan suggests having your kiddos work in pairs as well as setting up three different stations.

STATION ONE: RICE

At the first station, students will take turns assisting their partner in putting two dixie cups full of rice in the bottom of their sock.

STATION TWO: BATTING

At the second station, invite students to fill their sock two-thirds full with quilt batting.

STATION THREE: DECORATING

At the third station the snowman starts to take shape! Start by adding two rubber bands; one where the scarf will go and one where the batting ends, creating a head for the snowman.

Next, roll down what's left of the tube sock creating a 'hat' for the snowman. Cute, right?!

Finally, it's time to add all the embellishments!

- Wiggle eyes and a craft felt 'carrot nose' to make the face.

- Craft puffs for 'earmuffs' and a pom pom on the top of the hat.

- Assorted buttons on the body and jingle bell at the neck to add color and fun!

A few suggestions for the decorating station...

Have all of the embellishments set out on a table and provide students with a small paper plate with their name on it. As they select the embellishments, they can carry their goods on the plate which can then be stacked neatly on top of each other at the 'gluing station' should you get backed up! Because...

Even though you're using a low temp glue gun, have an adult do the gluing!
