Potato Printing & Storytelling

Literacy and Fine Motor Preschool Lesson Plan

This is such a simple idea, but is a great way to build your students' confidence as communicators, strengthen vocabulary, and inspire creativity. Pull out some butcher paper, add several fun tools {like potato/veggie stamps as Zoe did at The Handmade Adventures of Captain Crafty!} and, using washable ink pads or craft paint, invite your kiddos to "draw/stamp" a story.

Since your preschoolers will be busy creating, record a written version of their story for them, making certain to write it down exactly how they dictate it. [NOTE: Typed and glued to the back of the artwork, these make great keepsakes for parents!] After they've finished creating, have your kiddos break off into groups of three or four to share their stories with their classmates or set aside a special story time where students can share their work with the class.
