With its leading prompts, this fantastic bulletin board design from Ted Edinger, art teacher and creator of the site, Art with Mr. E, teaches kids to think critically about art as well as organize and articulate their thoughts. While perfect for the art room, the design can also be adapted to fit any classroom - encouraging your students to explore a particular subject, topic, or even unit. [We imagine this would be a great concept for introducing and exploring literature in the classroom!]

Questions for Exploration

In the event that the picture isn't clear enough, here are the prompts that Mr. E invites his students to think about. While they may not work for the exact topic you have in mind, use them as inspiration for when you create your own bulletin board!

  • What do you see?
  • What is it about?
  • Do you like it?
  • What do you like about it?
  • What don't you like about it?
  • What mood does this work create?
  • Would you hang this in your home?

Along with the bulletin board of prompts, Ted also creates a complimentary word wall filled with adjectives and other words students can use when thinking about, talking about, writing about, and exploring works of art. A fantastic concept with many cross-curricular possibilities!

[On a side note, we wanted to draw attention to Mr. E's DIY border made from recycled art textbooks! A super fun idea!]
