A Journey of Thanksgiving - Thanksgiving Bulletin Board Idea

Thanksgiving Pilgrim Themed Bulletin Board Idea

Kim Jordano of Kinder By Kim created this pilgrim themed bulletin board as part of her November decorations and we thought it would be a great fit for any early childhood classroom! Your kiddos will have a blast constructing their pilgrims to sail on the Mayflower and will be challenged to take inventory of the many things they're thankful for!

Pilgrim Project

In a previous article, we detailed how to create pilgrims from paper plates and construction paper {the post was entitled, We Give Thanks}. Simply follow the link to find the full tutorial. Before beginning, you'll need to collect the following supplies...

  • Paper plates
  • Multicultural craft paint
  • Black craft paint
  • Kids craft scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Black, brown, white, and yellow construction paper
After designing their pilgrim "twin", have your students brainstorm several thing they're thankful for - scripting them onto pieces of paper to be displayed with their craft.

The Mayflower Journey Bulletin Board Idea

  • Background: Sky blue bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "A Journey of Thanksgiving!"
  • Border: Complimentary solid color trimmer or Thanksgiving themed bulletin board border.
  • Decoration: 1) The Mayflower. Kim created a simple rectangle from a cardboard box, mounting it to the middle of the bulletin board, and using construction paper letters to designate it, The Mayflower. For the sail, simply cut a curved rectangle from white bulletin board paper. 2) The Waves. Cut a strip of royal blue bulletin board paper big enough to cover the bottom third of the bulletin board {including a bit of The Mayflower's "hull"} and use craft scissors to add a scalloped edge to the top of the paper. Add waves to the paper using craft paint or chalk. 3) The Pilgrims. Add your students' pilgrim crafts to the boat as well as their notes of thanksgiving written on pieces of paper.

While the "Thanksgiving turkey" is certainly a fun decoration - we love that this design provides a unique theme for the holiday! Thanks so much for stopping by!
